The campaign theme of this
year’s International Women's Day is #EmbracingEquity. Multi Products
(HK) hopes to seize the chance to raise
awareness about women’s contribution and effort to our society. We also hope to
call upon the public to get involved in women's rights activities and to reach
out to women in need.
Hong Kong women give people
the impression of being tough and capable. The proportion of working women has
been increasing in the past 30 years, from 36.5% in 1990 to 49.6% in 2021,
which shows their pursuit of financial independence and autonomy. The number of
women in management has also increased - the ratio of females in manager
positions or above has risen from 29.8% in 2008 to 38.4% in 2021, proving
that women are no less capable than men at work. Many of these working women
are working mothers or have to support the family alone. Their efforts and
perseverance in juggling multiple roles and still performing well in the
workplace are truly commendable. Multi Products (HK) Limited encourage that employers from all
industries to show their appreciation for female employees during IWD and show
understanding when they encounter any difficulties.
We have various laws and
institutions to combat discrimination in our society. Despite the seemingly
gender equal workplace environment, however, we still see unfair treatment
outside of the workplace, and these may be overlooked as minor issues,
including people commenting judgmentally on women's clothes in online forums,
cyber bullying and even harassment in real life. When it comes to the family
aspect, many women are still constrained by traditional beliefs that they need
to marry and have children, which consequently lead to female’s lack of
autonomy. More unfortunately, many women that suffer from violence have no
recourse.
Despite the seemingly sound
legal protection in Hong Kong, gender inequality still lurks in our society.
Only through ideological and educational efforts can we create a truly diverse,
equal and inclusive social environment. Reaching the goal of #EmbracingEquity
requires every individual to take an initiative in addressing gender issues,
speaking out against inequality, and reaching out to those in need.
Multi Products (HK) Limited’s Corporate Social Responsibility
Multi Products (HK) Limited
strives to create a diverse and equal work environment. We believe that all
employees should be treated equally, regardless of gender, so that employees
can expand their potential. Gender of candidates has never been an alter factor
in our hiring process.
We also offer comprehensive
benefits to our female employees, including maternity leave and promotion
opportunities. We ensure that their status as a working mother would not affect
their benefits and opportunities in the workplace. If they encounter any
difficulties, we are more than willing to provide support. We wish that the
company can play a supporting role, instead of putting even more pressure on
them.
Keeping the 2023 IWD theme
of #EmbracingEquity in mind, we hope to call on more companies and
organizations to take on the responsibility of eliminating inequities,
realising the concept of equality in their company culture, ultimately
elevating it to the social level and solving gender problems in our society.
Multi Products (HK) has gathered a list of meaningful International Women's Day events for those who want to make a difference in gender issues. In addition, the organisations holding these activities have been supporting local women and fighting for women's rights and interests for decades. All committed to raising awareness of women's concerns in the community, they welcome the public to become volunteers or make donations. We greatly encourage you to give them your support.
Established over 40 years
ago, HKFWC has been providing support to grassroot women, to realise one of
their most important missions - helping women to become self-supporting and
thereby gain autonomy.
Many modern women are faced
with the dilemma of whether or not to divorce, but it is not an easy subject to
bring up with their families. The legal issues and the money involved in the
process draw many women back. Out of fear, they choose to put up with various
marital and family problems in spite of their agony. On this year’s IWD, the
association organised a free legal consultation to give women more information
on issues about divorce, custody and alimony, with the ultimate goal of
empowering women to make the best choices and plans for their future.
